Review of Operational Network Improvements for Yarra Trams (2015)

In July 2015 Apical ADS was commissioned by Yarra Trams to compare the costs and benefits of a range of actions taken by Yarra Trams to improve operational performance, particularly punctuality. Sally was able to demonstrate the cost-effectiveness of numerous actions underway and identify potential for similar actions to mitigate worsening punctuality performance elsewhere on the network. The approach is now in use by Yarra Trams to help prioritise their operational performance improvement activities.

Customer Review of Proposed MBRL Timetable for TransLink (Qld Department of Transport and Main Roads) (2015)

In August 2015 TransLink sought a customer-focused review of the draft rail timetable for a new line extension. Apical ADS completed the review in the accelerated timeframe requested and accommodated data and model result changes throughout the project. The review included developing metrics for assessment and comparing service levels at specific stations as well as identifying mitigation measures where impacts were identified. The review informed TransLink’s plan to operationalize the timetable.

Strategic Review and KPI Revision for Yarra Trams (2015)

Each year Yarra Trams revise and confirm their KPIs and Targets for the subsequent year. In 2015 an external view was sought. Apical ADS used their external perspective and local insight into the business to conduct a SWOT analysis and review of operational performance data and then to develop a summary of the current performance and a forward looking strategy for the coming year for the Lines function. This formed the basis for the KPI setting and strategic positioning of Operational Performance corporate objectives for 2016.

On-Road Priority Proposal for Yarra Trams (2016)

Yarra Trams sought Sally’s network planning and executive-level communication skills to develop a proposal for increasing on-road tram priority in Melbourne. The proposal aimed at the government road and public transport agencies. Sally’s role was to collate material from the operator’s network performance team, analyze the data and build a strong case for the installation of the on-road treatment. Consultation with internal stakeholders was also Sally’s responsibility. The proposal document was used to inform stakeholder liaison.

Operations Strategic Planning for V/Line (2017)

The Operations team in V/Line is distributed across multiple offices both in Melbourne and in regional locations. Sally worked with the managers across the business to improve their interfaces internally within the different business units and externally with key stakeholders. An action-oriented process developed a clear operating model and a range of tactical and strategic actions to embed the model and streamline the process of working together. As cross-team challenges were identified, the teams worked together to develop pragmatic actions to address each one.

Public Transport Ticketing Strategic Advice for Conduent (2016/2017/2018)

Apical ADS provided strategic advice to Conduent as they developed concepts and material to strengthen their position in the Australian public transport ticketing market. This work included considering similarities, differences and likely growth and change in the public transport markets in Brisbane, Melbourne and Adelaide and relating technology opportunities to customer preferences and key operational challenges on the network.
